The Black Jack King

He loiters endlessly waiting for something unknown

Waiting for a future not revealed and un-shown

Smoking and thinking endless thoughts of love

Wanting his love reciprocated and to prove

That it was all real and not a cruel dream

Losing everything in the river that runs between

The gates of heaven and the pit of hell

Fallen forever under the dread Queen’s spell

She is ever on his mind and abiding in his heart

Creating a cold and empty wounded smart

That only she can fill and mend and stay

Out of the love that over him has sway

Come lonely man, find rest and succour

In the arms of true love and reluctant mutter

The words she most wants to hear and hold

In her stoney heart made hard by life so cold

Warm her again and loves fragile light will prove

That you are the man she loves and her hearts-move.
